Year after year, Holmegaard’s glass decorations create new memories through reflections in glass. Holmegaard’s annual Christmas bell, heart and star made from mouth-blown glass have become a regular collector’s item in many homes. They have been created by Danish designer Ann-Sofi Romme, who also made the first Holmegaard Christmas bell with motif in 1993. Since then, this has turned into an entire collection of bells, hearts, stars and baubles in mouth-blown glass, which each year are given a beautiful new Christmas motif. The 2024 collection has chosen the braided paper star as the basis of its nostalgic festive theme – and has been joined by a new little bird. The Christmas bird measures 7 cm in height and is 14 cm long, including the tail feather. The colours have been kept in a classic red and gold with a metallic finish, and the small red hearts bring extra cosiness to the season. The graphic decoration is in line with both Christmas traditions and the current colour trend, with matching red silk strings. A designer’s idea often stems from her own experiences, which is why Ann-Sofi Romme has always wanted to draw her own glass bird for the series. She has always loved the old-fashioned glass birds with their coloured tail feathers. And for her new bird, Ann-Sofi Romme was inspired by the old tradition of putting birds on the tree. For Christmas isn't the same without glass birds. Just like in the old days. As well as serving as a classic ornament, a bird on the Christmas tree is a symbol of freedom, nature and the divine. You can also choose to let it fly down from the tree and land on a couple of natural branches, on a window, or wherever you think would benefit from the presence of a beautiful bird with a small golden heart.
