Fred Perry for men
All products
When you hear the name Fred Perry, you probably think of tennis and polo shirts. And it's not surprising. Fred Perry, who is also one of the founders of the brand, was born in 1909 in Stockport, England. It turned out pretty quickly that the young Perry had a knack for table tennis, and in 1929 he was world champion. At the time, he was only 19 years old. Fred now started to gravitate towards tennis, but there was a problem - Fred Perry did not come from a rich or famous family. It made him a black sheep in the tennis world, a rebel even. This only seemed to strengthen the fighting spirit of the young Fred and he came to win Wimbledon three times in a row. He is also the only British tennis player to have achieved a "career grand slam", which means he won all four major tennis championships in the same calendar year.
In the late 1940s, Fred Perry and the Austrian football player Tibby Wegner met. Together, Fred and Tibby created the first sweatband, under the name Fred Perry, and it became a huge success. It did not take long before the brand would have the next big impact - the polo shirt. The idea was to create a sports jersey that could challenge Lacoste. This correlated well with Fred Perry's own preferences - being well dressed and looking good was of great importance to him. With a sense of the classic style, combined with sportiness, the brand took shape.
Fred Perry - Polo Shirt
The first model to be released was named the M3, and was introduced to the world at Wimbledon in 1952. The iconic polo shirt was an immediate success. The company was initially run by Perry's son, David, but was bought in 1995 by the Japanese company Hit Union. The M3 model was designed with functionality and durability in mind. The idea was that the polo shirt would fit just as well on the tennis court as outside. They even created their own fit - "The Fred Perry Fit". A simple, light and durable design. But the model that would really transform Fred Perry from a sports brand to a streetwear was the M12. It was the first polo shirt to have the brand's signature stripes on the sleeves and collar. Proudly made in England since 1950. Over the years, the brand has expanded its popular collections and today Fred Perry is sold in many of the world's major fashion stores.
